Texas Medical Center – This Medical Center at Houston was established in the year 1945, by the funding endowed by the M.D Anderson Foundation and with the help of businessman Monroe Dunaway Anderson. The first gift to the center was a check for $1000. In the year 1941, the State legislature Texas granted funds for the University of Texas for the purpose of starting a cancer research hospital.
Then the President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt had approved the purchase of 118 acres from a local entrepreneur George Hermann (on whom one of the hospitals is named and the namesake of the Hermann Park) in 1944.
The Medical Center at Houston has 54 medicine institutions, that has 21 hospitals, and other specialty institutions. It has four medical schools, three public health organizations, and a dental school. All of these Institutions are not for profit.
